Light-Bearing: Ho'oponopono, Hawaiian prayer for healing

Ho'oponopono is a breathtakingly beautiful simple prayer that unlocks toxic thoughts trapped in the subconscious, freeing us to experience a more healthy and fulfilling life.

As magnetic beings, we attract into our lives that which is of a like frequency.  This means, if we are holding onto old painful memories unaware, we will attract into our daily life experiences that which mirrors those memories.  For example, if we grew up with childhood abuse, we will experience abuse in our daily lives, despite how disguised it may seem. Those old memories, which consciously are forgotten continue to have magnetic power, like buried land mines which explode when tripped over. So, no matter how many positive intentions we affirm on a conscious level, those intentions are negated or sabotaged by deeply buried memories.

Western psychologists and spiritual counselors have long sought means to help people release old operating patterns, usually unsuccessfully. Through Ho'oponopono's prayer, which is very ancient and traces of which are in all the world's religions, cultures, and spiritual traditions, old wounds are finally healed, terminating their magnetic power to attract more pain, illness and powerlessness into our lives.

Ho'oponopono seems to be a perfect spiritual fit for the human problem. For anyone who has prayed earnestly for a miracle, for healing, for a job, or new home or even just to keep your current home from foreclosure, knows, just wishing, just making intentions, reciting affirmations, begging God on your knees, doesn't always work.  Too many people have lost their faith over what seems like God's reluctance or unwillingness to answer our prayers.  As a hospital chaplain, I've sat in a neonatal unit with new parents who knew their newborn would die, or in a children's hospital with a teenager who had a terminal diagnosis of cancer, or in an AIDS unit where a young man in his late 20s had no hope of a cure due to the advanced stage of his disease.

I've seen great pain and suffering among us, from sickness, poverty, domestic violence, racism, crimes against mankind on so many levels. And, in every single case, I've sought God's help in prayer.  Sometimes, wonderfully, those prayers were answered.  Several cases were really remarkable, but so many other times I've waited in the chapel with families as their son or daughter or parent or spouse lay dying in a hospital bed upstairs. God's silence was heartbreaking.

Why?

We were going about it all the wrong way. There is another way to bring God's healing into a situation. According to Dr. Hew Len, a psychologist who is reported to have completely cleaned out an entire high-security Hawaiian mental hospital by curing all the patients using this beautiful prayer, it's really as simple as taking responsibility for everything that's happening in your face and asking for forgiveness for it.

Dr. Len bases his prayer on two simple concepts.  The first is that we are all, in our core self, perfectly and 100 percent connected.  There is no "you" and "me,"  we are actually one, connected by the Divine who flows between and among us at our core level.  That center is where all God's love is, bubbling away, bringing us bliss, creativity, empowerment.  That center is right below our subconscious which is below our conscious level of daily life.

This understanding seems to complete the idea introduced in the popular book/movie, The Secret, which claims wonderfully that we can have, be and achieve anything we want.  We just have to set our intentions and program our mind through constant repetition and visualization and those intentions will miraculously appear in our lives.  So, if I imagine peace in the Middle East or the healing of a friend, that will happen?  Yes, but only if I had a clear mind, completely rid of any old sabotaging memories in the subconscious.  And, sadly, tragically, that's the real situation. No one does.  We all have blockages, "memories" according to Dr. Len, that filter our perceptions, undoing the effectiveness of our intentions, many of which are ignorantly set by our ego anyway rather than our divine self.  The beautiful Ho'oponopono prayer is a radical shift away from ego intentionality to Divine inspiration and authentic being.

So, how do we know what's in our subconscious so that we can clean it out or delete that old programming? According to Dr. Len, everything that's showing up in your current reality - sickness of a friend, poverty of a homeless person you pass on the way to work, the falling stock market, the traffic ticket you got, etc.  Everything that shows up in your life, is being caused by buried "memories" which are still powerful, deep within your subconscious.

Dr. Len says that to begin healing our lives, and our world by extension, we have to take 100 percent full responsibility for everything that shows up in our lives.  If a friend e-mails you to tell  you that another friend has cancer, that has shown up in your life.  If a neighbor has lost his home to the bank, that has shown up in your life.  Those are just a few examples.  These "negative" situations are external symptoms of deeply buried negative memories which need remediation.  They need to be excised, deleted, removed to allow the deeper power of the God-self, in which we all are alive, to flow through us into the world around us.

Then, there is only one way to heal those memories, or erase them, or delete them in order to remove their power to attract negativity into our lives and block us from our real power, which is the Divine presence that is waiting to beautifully and powerfully bless us below it.  That is through forgiveness.  The idea of forgiving ourselves for what has happened to us in the past, stuff for which we are not to blame, but now are responsible for, is not new.  This idea is all over the Course in Miracles material and is central to Christian spirituality.  Remember the last words from the cross were, "Father forgive them, for they know not what they do."

Dr. Len's Ho'oponopono prayer is simple.  It asks us to ask the Divine for forgiveness for anything and everything that shows up in our lives that needs healing, even a toothache or that you have to drive 7 more miles and your car is registering empty.  Anything!  And, this is even better.  You don't have to know why these things are showing up in your life.  You don't have to psychoanalyze the root cause.  You just have to know that it needs to be healed or remedied. So, here's the prayer:

"I'm sorry........Please forgive me ........ Thank You .......I love you."
This prayer is simple, beautiful, scripturally and theologically sound, and awesome in its effectiveness.

You can explore more about this in Joe Vitale's book, Zero Limits, and there are a plethora of articles about Dr. Len Hew and the origins of the Ho'oponopono.

Here's another just to clarify further.  Remember you are loved and the Divine wants to bless you.

A prayer for all of us

                                "The Prayer"
I pray you'll be our eyes
And watch us where we go
And help us to be wise
In times when we don't know

Let this be our prayer
As we go our way
Lead us to a place
Guide us with your grace
To a place where we'll be safe

I pray we'll find your light
And hold it in our hearts
When stars go out each night
Remind us where you are

Let this be our prayer
When shadows fill our day
Lead us to a place

Guide us with your grace
Give us faith so we'll be safe

We ask that life be kind
And watch us from above
We hope each soul will find
Another soul to love

Let this be our prayer
Just like every child
Needs to find a place
Guide us with your grace
Give us faith so we'll be safe

Need to find a place
Guide us with your grace
Give us faith so we'll be safe

Light-Bearing: Christian Foundation for Children and Aging

While Tiger Lilies is all about growing spiritually, mystically, into our full potential as divine beings having a "human experience," it is equally committed to growing in love outwardly and bringing the spiritual light of love into the world.

In a new series, "Light-Bearing," I will introduce you to some of the best charitable organizations out there.  After careful research, they are the best investment for your hard-earned financial gifts, as they dedicate at least 75% of your contribution directly to the child or family you adopt to love and help.

Today's Light-Bearer:
The Christian Foundation for Children and Aging.
http://www.cfcausa.org

While the news is all about the famine in Somalia and the flood of refugees pouring into Kenya, there is more to the story than a drought-induced famine. It's about a dark spot on the Earth due to a shortage of love.  We may be able to help make up that shortfall of love with our prayers and generosity.

Half a million children risk dying due to starvation, today, but many of the causes of this great global tragedy is due to political and economic circumstances stemming from a 50-year civil war as the country staggered under the onslaught of terrorist forces by Islamic insurgencies. Recently, Somalia's clashing forces consolidated into a Transitional Federal Government, but no nation can survive, not to mention thrive, divided against itself. The consequences are in the headlines.

And, contributing to that already existing political/economic climate is the radically changing global climate causing the less than normal rainfall needed for crops and drinking water.

While the greatest need today is Somalia's children, there are rising needs other countries around the world.  That need is expected to increase as the global climate changes and the economic prosperity dims, even for the world's most prosperous countries.

Now, the good news in all this tragedy is that it offers us all a wonderful spiritual opportunity. There is a spiritual phenomenon about giving.  You may already be aware that it feels good to give. It opens your heart, allows the goodness that has been given to you, to flow through you and out into the world.  While it is a noble thing to give, it is that "flowing" that feels so rich, vibrant, enlivening and loving.  We feel good when the flow is turned on.

The interesting thing about that "feel good" feeling is it allows the goodness of God to flow through us as we open our hearts and resources to our global family, specifically a child in India or an entire family in Guatemala.  Also, the beautiful thing about adopting a child or a family somewhere else is it connects you with a world larger than your own.  It puts you actively on the world's human web, allows your life to make a meaningful difference to your brothers and sisters around the world.

It is both a noble thing to do and it brightens your life, your world, as it brightens another.  It is good morally and spiritually.  It is good social justice and it is good mysticism.

Now, about today's organization:

Christian Foundation for Children and Aging

Through the Christian Foundation for Children and Aging, you can adopt a child or an entire family, build a relationship and support those who are in dire need in many countries around the world. A New Dawn for Humanity

Hopi petroglyph*
It's been a long dark night for humanity's collective soul, lasting about 14,000 years.  Our scurrilous history is laced with conflict, violent and bloody, throughout most of the centuries, brother against brother. Violent clashes of religions stirred the ire of western Europe throughout the early, middle and late "dark ages."  Religions were all male dominated, structured much like the monarchies which also rivaled for land and power.  The predominant structure of everything was power based, in a pyramid fashion with power being disseminated down from one dictatorial head, steamrolling through the centuries exploiting women, children, the poor, the weak, and the animals, the natural world, up to today.

However, there was a time before that time when things weren't so harsh and competitive just to stay alive, a gentler time when there was a stronger emphasis on peace, sharing and even the arts.

Modern archaeology has uncovered in many  ancient archaeological ruins the preexistence of Goddess-based cultures predeluvian prominent.  The findings in the ashes of their fire pits indicate there were no weapons of war.  The conclusion by archaeologists is that those Goddess-based cultures were highly intuitive and primarily peaceful, caring for the sick, poor and elderly and educating the children collectively by a sharing of power among the people.  It was a horizontal power paradigm, rather than a vertical, power down from top, type.

But, when barbaric tribes, with their male gods and feisty male leaders, swept down through the areas near Greece, where these Goddess-based religions existed, those peaceful, docile, agrarian cultures were no match to the fierce, land-hungry, power hungry, boys from the north. The peaceful cultures were taken over.  There is clear evidence in Greece of a pre-existing culture that was most likely feminine-based with its high emphasis on arts and music.

Historicans suggest that our current world history basically begins where the male dominated cultures, with their male god religions, take over.  We have only hints in our ancient writings that these Goddess-based religions /cultures ever existed, but it seems they did exist for almost  40 - 60,000 years.  There is also strong evidence, emerging lately, that there were world-wide cultures that existed on the Earth that grew in power, and then destroyed their own civilizations in global warfare. There may have been five previous world-wide highly developed world civilizations, and according to the Hopi we are in the fifth one.  This idea is also held by many brilliant scientists and other archaeologists.

The Goddess-based cultures existed for minimally 30,000 years prior to the invasion from the boys from the north, with their weapons and dominating power tactics.  They have now, consequently, existed at the maximum of 15 - 16,000 years, and most of those years have been pretty violent.

Christianity, which on the surface may seem like another male dominated religion, in fact is not.  Jesus' message  balances outward directed social action with inward directed spiritual encounter with the divine, the ying and yang, the male and female aspects of spiritual and civilizational maturity.  As a contemplative and action-oriented faith, it balances male and female spirituality, profoundly honoring both with equal emphasis.  In the center of the darkest period in our current civilization's existence, in the depths of the Kali Yuga, he brought the way to peace which was an emphasis back to the integrity and dignity of the individual, freeing the individual to encounter God personally and grow spiritually and also to allow that growth to be reflected in actions that would benefit the community.  Early Gnostics and Orthodox churches acknowledge that Jesus left the church to Mary Magdalene as discussed in a previous blog.  While Christianity is not Goddess-based, it honors the spiritual and creative dimension of human life, which is typically defined as "feminine," while it is also present in men. At that time, his words and teachings were urgent, leading some of his followers to think the "end" was near. They certainly remain equally as urgent today.

Today we are at a tipping point, according to Yoga's Yuga calendar, we have ended the Kali Yuga, which is the darkest age and are moving into a less dark age.  The yogis feel while the political and economic climate on the Earth is brighter than that at the turn of the Kali yuga around 1700, there is still great concern that we may cause our planet, the people, the animal and natural life so much harm from our abuse of all of life, in almost every aspect of life, that we will reach a point of no return.  No one knows if we have passed that point of no return.

All the world's religions as well as extinct ancient religions (i.e. Mayan and Egyptian) all point to a particularly dangerous time for us and we are approaching that time, if we're not already in it.  What does it mean and what do we have to do, in order to avert our total demise?  If you listen to NASA, NOAH, world economists and scientists, there is grave concern about the direction in which we're headed.  We must turn this spaceship around.  We must alter our course.

I've included in this blog an important and  awakening U-tube piece about the Hopi Kachina prophecy, which is an ancient warning that we must heed today.

We must open our hearts and increase our caring for the sick, poor, hungry, marginalized anywhere in our world. Truly love is the answer to all our world's problems, but it's an authentic, mature, open, risk-taking openness of our huge global heart.

In the beginning, as recorded in Genesis, is the story of the bloodshed between two brothers - Cain and Abel.  The bottom line could be the theme song for the human race.  We are our brothers' keepers! And, we are the keepers of all of life and we cannot look away.  We have to share our good providence with our brothers and sisters everywhere.  There are rich people in the United States and many of the Arab countries who have more money than the U.S. treasury.  What if we all shared?  Love IS the answer and sharing is Love.  The whole world's future depends on the opening of our collective heart, and sharing our treasure, wisdom, compassion and love.

In the Hopi Kachina prophesy is a warning.  While it is cast in stone that an "end time" will come, it is only a warning  that we must wake up.  And, women everywhere need to become free.  We all have to take off our veils of ignorance and victimhood and take our rightful place in our world as equals.  We are all equal, born with the same rights and loved equally by our creator. Education and self empowerment are needed for all of us, so we can become a fully empowered and fully aware people, everywhere.

The power of Language: wise-speak

You are poets and playwrights, makers of futures and crafters of time.  You use your powerful, magical minds and voices to formulate powerful enchantments, spells, blessings or curses, to brighten or darken yours and others' days, weeks, even lifetimes. Every word you speak ripples through your world, leaving its footprint in the fabric of the web in which we all live.

As powerful magical beings, we cast spells over our lives in each and every word we speak, emerging from either our powerful intentional minds or out of foolish, unaware mischievous minds, still unruly from our ignorance and lack of focused discipline and awareness. We  have a choice as to how we choose to think, what we think about, what we focus our minds on and on what words we choose to express and focus that thought and power. In every word we speak, we send powerful mind energy out into our world.

As I watch CNN for news from around the world, which I am trying to limit to just the news lately rather than listening to the long diatribes which turn the news into long running soap operas, I am made further aware of this truth.  Does the news report on the world's tragedies or does it contribute to them? Scenes of Middle Eastern men and boys attempting to speak to the CNN newscasters have made me aware of the importance they place on the broadcast word.  If each word we speak has an impact, I can only imagine how powerful each word spoken by a newscaster that is spread throughout the world has in raising or lowering the quality of the real worldwide web in which we are all immersed.

I find it sad that throughout the centuries we have condemned and stereotyped, maybe out of fear and ignorance, the power of the "witch," which simply means "wise one." Most of the world's patriarchal religions have condemned witchcraft leaving in our minds pictures of hideous green old women with mangled fingernails and wild hair. So we all project our unconscious fear of our own power, of our own innate magical powers onto these iconic archetypes of power.  We have distrusted the powers of the "wise ones" and consequently given ourselves permission to continue to sleep in a perpetual state of unconscious ignorance, remaining unaware of who and how powerful we really are.

Whether or not we realize it and then use it wisely or remain ignorant and use our powers foolishly, we are powerful beings who do cast spells and enchantments into the world every time we open our mouths to speak, to complain, to criticize, to gossip, to spread malevolent news or to sing "glad tidings," to raise someone's spirits with a simple compliment, or smile at another and look into his eyes and radiate joy and love and peace and blessing into his soul.

When you become aware of your power, you will first become silent, become vigilant over your wild random thoughts, harness them like a herd of wild mustangs, and focus them in the direction you would like to see change, healing, hope for the future.  When you become aware of your power, that very power of the single word, you will use your words wisely, carefully.

I've always been impressed by the Native Americans, whose wise men speak very rarely, and only after a considerable amount of time and reflection.  They do not feel the pressure for a quick response.  It's not a race to see who says the first witty word first.  It's not a race or a campaign to manipulate the minds of others, to get the best bone in the pickings.  It is to draw from the deep well of wisdom within, carefully consider the impact his words will have on the listeners near and far, because the world is listening, whether or not you are aware of its immediacy, and then cast his words forth to create - hopefully to create, to bless, to heal and to bring love.

Obviously dark witchcraft, the stuff of legends, is not ever what you think it is.  Are large global religions any less guilty of malevolently bending the minds of ignorant people, who though still sleeping and unaware pf their powers, are honestly intending to seek and choose goodness and light?  Those who once condemned witchcraft, sending millions of soft spoken, wise women to die horrifically painful deaths, are they not the very ones they accused others of being?

We would be wise if we listened carefully to the essence of what we are hearing and then choose our own words carefully, sifting out the wheat from the tares, before casting them out into the world.

As you bring forth the most beautiful encantation, I love you, remember that your creator, the divine one, loves you that much and so much more.  As you receive the love of our divine parent, you will become more loving and wise, and will gain the power to create in those three words, "I love you."

The Power of Awareness, the lamp in the cupboard, pt. 2

For a long time, you wandered, lost in the world into which you were born.  You clung desperately at first to your parents as your native innocence believed all that you were told about yourself and about life in general.

If you had any memories at all from your life in paradise, they were discounted, ruled fanciful childhood thoughts, and you were taught not to believe your own natural instincts about who you really are.  You were taught that you are a human being, born to study, work, make friends, make money, grow old and die.  You were also taught that there is a God above who will judge you on how well you followed the rules, more like a school master than the kind, loving, absolutely unconditionally accepting, nurturing creator we now know God is.

We are also taught by our current culture that there is nothing else, other than this three dimensional existence.  If we are to have any happiness in this life, we will have to pull ourselves up by our bootstraps by our own sheer will power and ability to control (one of my father's favorite lessons to me as a young child).  We will obey our parents, learn our lessons, even follow the teachings of the family religion, which imposes more rules on us.

And so we go to school, learn to play the games the other children play.  We try to "fit in" to the world around us.  By the time we are12 or 13 most likely we have completely forgotten our magical life.  But, that pearl of a memory is not gone.  It cannot ever be erased.  It is who we really are as children of the divine one.  Although our parents may have forgotten and all others around us have forgotten, when your life has become too dark, too painful, too utterly unbearable, something inside you breaks.  Your ability to endure wears out and the cocoon of darkness into which you were born, cracks open.  Then the search for truth begins.  At this point you will either seek after goodness and truth, a way back to that paradise from within your own soul, or you will join with the dark powers to control and exploit others for your own benefit.  That is "exercising your fundamental option" I talked about in my piece on Ramadan a few days ago.

Something deep within your subconscious mind, waiting all these years for you to simply uncover and see it, become aware of it, is still radiating, still magnetizing light to itself, still glimmering in the darkness in the deep sea of your soul.  It is that "pearl of great price."

That deeply buried inner light is that "lamp in the cupboard."  It was always there and in it is all your magic.  In it are all your powers of creation, love, joy, hope, promise, flight out of this dark world into which you've been born and in which you have suffered all your life. It is your ticket back to paradise.  The way there is through your thinking, your now aware mind.

For each one of us, that light shows up a bit differently.  You will have to find yours, yourself.  No one can tell you how it is revealed to you.  Others can only tell you how it was revealed to them and often the way is very similar to each of us.  One thing that is certain, there are no rules.  It doesn't convey any  more rules, or judgment, or condemnation.  It is life itself and it lives to simply live.  It is beinghood.  It is good.  It is creative power and it is freeing.  Your joy will be in that freedom from all the rules and restrictions that today bind your soul, like the chains of a jailed person.

You cannot be creative in captivity, enslaved to the rules and controlled by another - person, system, religion, government, tribal authority.  In freedom, you will find yourself and you find your power and your love.  You will have to learn to love yourself, through all the dulling blankets of negativity and judgment that have been layered on you since you were born. But, when you live out of that new found sense of love and creativity, you will bless the world.  The world is afraid to let go of its control for fear that anarchy would destroy it.  Well, perhaps it is high time that the world's control be broken and an anarchy of the holy human heart and spirit sweep across our globe bringing light and empowerment to all the voiceless, impoverished, fear-based people, all those children of the holy one who still sleep in darkness, suffering at the hands of those dim dictators who rule them, in whatever guise they come in.

The world tells you this is a hard way, this way to enlightenment, empowerment, love, joy and freedom from oppression.  But, it isn't.  It's simple.  Believe me when I tell you "they" lied to you.  It is easy.  Turn your conscious awareness away from the world around you, to that innermost place where you are perfect.  Begin to accept the idea that you have the right to be who you always were.  You have the right to decide for yourself to honor your own thoughts, your own ideas, your own intuitive sense, your own heart.  Think for yourself.  You can turn on that lamp in the inner cupboard by choosing to turn it on.  It will be like one of those dimmer lights that when you first turn it on, it is at first dim and only then slowly, as you continue to focus on turning it up, it will gradually brighten the room.  The lamp is like that.  It's dim at first, but as you focus your awareness, it will grow.

Turning it on is a process, but it begins with the simple awareness that it is there and can be accessed by your choosing to focus your thoughts on it.  The more you think about it, the more you love it, the more you want to wake up from this long sleep you've been in, like waking up from the world's illusion, it will respond.

Start small.  Its power switch is in your intention to find and remember who you really are.  The whole world has become a herd of slaves, governed and tormented by the powers that control us by the threat of judgement and punishment.  We live in fear of being judged and deemed wrong, bad, unholy, malevolent, rude for so long that we have even forgotten what we were afraid of as we slipped into a perpetual state of living in fear, which is vulnerability and submission to the outside forces.

Close your eyes, and honor your true being.  You are magical. You are a beautiful child of our creator.  You are loved.  You are magnificent.  You are beautiful and brilliant.  You are the power of light, the power of love, the power of joy and you have the power and the right to overcome all that faces you today and has stalked and haunted you throughout your entire life.

Our parents were meant to be our teachers, but they were personal emissaries of the world.  They didn't know any more than we did that they had a light in the cupboard or that they were magical and beautiful and loved beyond their wildest imaginings.  Perhaps even if they realized it, the world stomped it out. But, today is a new day on the Earth.  We are all starting to wake up, one by one, slowly, stretching and refusing to buy into the world system anymore.  It is a process, it is radical, it is almost militant, but it is a road made of love and traveled in love.  You go barefoot, my friends, leaving your army boots outside the doors of your inner chambers.

We must be determined and persevere on this path to becoming empowered and unleashing our magical natures.  While we won't be rewarded by the power that sought to control us if we do this, what could be worse than living in darkness?

The lamp in the cupboard will be lighted, your power restored, when you  become aware of it and choose to focus on it.  It is now a provable fact that the power of the mind is the greatest power we have.  We can move mountains if we focus long enough.  When we stop proclaiming to the world we are weak and powerless victims, which is what we do when we complain and gossip and speak negatively, and choose to honor and use our voices to speak power into all things, speak beauty back into our world, breathe love into the air we draw life from, love our neighbors and enemies, bless the stranger with a smile or a gracious word, we will raise our own personal vibration, slowly unleashing our own personal power and our own innate, long-waiting, magical natures.

As we choose to speak only good, loving, helpful, personally loving words to ourselves in our own self-talk and to others, we turn up the lamp.  We can make the decision to think positively, speak positively, hope and pray and visualize what we want. Only we can do that. No one can take that right away from you.  Even a dictator can't take away from you your right to choose what you think and what you speak. That's your choice.  Use it carefully and turn on the lamp that will light your way back to paradise.

The Power of Awareness: just a wish away, pt 1

You are magical.  You were born with a magical nature, gentle, curious, still softly singing as you emerged into this world.

You were able to alight on flower pedals and move on the currents of the breezes to wherever your thoughts brought you.  You danced from rose pedal to jasmine leaf, reeling ecstatically, in love with the fragrance.  Joy swept you up into the bright summer sun as your translucent wings sparkled in the luminescence all around you.  Spinning in joy, you soared in the bliss of heavenly love.  You wept at the sheer beauty of a waterfall as it slipped through the crevice of a rocky ridge amid the abounding fertile green landscape.

Beauty was before and behind you.  Love was the very air you breathed and joy was in every gasp.  You sang from morning to sunset and then slept lightly with the other radiant children of heaven, yet unborn souls, in the bosom of the holy one.  You were light.  You were love.  You were joy.  You were song.  You were color.  You were beauty.  You were kindness.  You were gentleness.  You were powerful without effort, resolve without intention, visionary without cause.  You knew nothing else.  You were magical.  Everything you wanted - which was precious little - was only a wish away.  And, this went on for ever and ever.  In fact, time was nonexistent.  Just being was all there was and it was beautiful, peaceful, blissful - all without even knowing that it was anything other than just being.

And then what happened?

You were born into the third dimension, squeezing those delicate shimmering wings into fleshy baby arms, and awaking in a noisy place where the light was darker, even on a bright summer day, than the light you remembered.  You cried, sobbing, pitifully sobbing as you discovered that where you had been was no longer where you were.  They comforted you, held you, fed you, loved you and you felt moderately content.  But, there were times when they hit you, yelled at you, frightened you and you became afraid of them because they were also the ones who fed you and comforted you at other times. You became theirs and you clung to them in this cold dark noisy place in a way you'd never known before.

Soon, you forgot the paradise you'd come from and you forgot that you were magical and with that terrible forgetting you lost your magical powers.  They weren't really gone but without knowing you had them, you couldn't use them.  Like a lamp up in a cupboard, you can't turn it on if you don't know it's up there.

(Come back .... still under construction... unexpected interruption)
