Outrageous Times Call for Courageous Activism

The world seems mad. While governments and multinational corporations plot their next round of exploitation and mad deceit, simple people are utterly overwhelmed at the outrageous news on the internet or nightly news.  In fact, added to the rising insanity is the fact that even the newspeople and journalists are struggling to keep up with the next dossier and bag of bones the colluded powers toss at them.

If it's true that only the insane can comprehend the full insanity of another, if only another sociopath can grasp the depth of another's mental illness, then the same could be true of the pathological antics of the world's biggest power brokers. So, I suppose, we can claim some leniency if we haven't grasped the extent of the world's mess or where and how we can get involved to help avert a total collapse of everything.

But, there's no time like now to begin.  I've heard plenty over the past couple years, since leaving my beloved Buffalo.  I've heard the right positions and the left positions, the religious social justice perspectives, the peace movement - which is still alive and well thankfully - the extreme pacivists who would invite us all to sit in meditation and lift the planet's vibration, which is a wonderful idea to add to a full measure of activism.  These are all very noble ideas. I think everyone honestly means well, but none of us can fully comprehend the seriousness of these times and no one position holds the entire solution.

I'm not proposing any single political solution except that of remaining centered on your core self, and at that core connect with Holy Spirit, which is the divine umbilical cord. Seek Her wisdom (in fact almost all religions believe in the Holy Spirit, in varying definitions, not just Christians and Catholics), pray without ceasing for wisdom and guidance as to how you could use your own unique spiritual toolkit to step out of your own little world, join with others, into the community and engage in courageous activism.  The time of sitting home, in front of the nightly news sipping your nightcap IS OVER!

Not to sound too much like a radio host, but we all must WAKE UP!,  get off our butts,  try to become as informed as possible, and storm our hearts to give birth to the new age that has now reached full term. Would we let it be snatched by the wolf at the door?

We can no longer pretend that things are not as they are. We have to wake up from our collective denial or we will be gathered like sheep to the slaughter. Whether or not you believe in global warming is irrelevant.  The planet is warming up, as are all the other planets in the solar system.  Things are happening, economic collapse may be looming at the horizon, joblessness is already at a rate that only our grandparents (great-grandparents for some of you youngsters) ever experienced and back then there were a lot fewer of us and we were able to live closer to the earth than we are able to today. Can you just imagine 400 million* Americans trying to farm a patch of vegetables?

So, this morning, as my heart churns at what feels imminent, I know that we all must join together - right/left - Catholic/Jew/Muslim/Buddhist/Hindi, Native American - rich/poor - old/young - all of us together and stand up for life and support each other in every way you can think of. Study the facts, learn as much as you can about what's going on, try to stay within the democratic process, join with others, write your elected representatives, and then, if you must, exercise your constitutional right to assemble and speak your mind.  Always speak your mind.  When the day comes that we are silenced, we are done.

Together we are the world, we are all One under this great sun, and we can do this together.  We all know how to love.  Well, it's time to take that old hat out of storage, dust it off and start wearing it.  Right now.  Today!

  1. Wow! That is a great piece. Down to earth so to speak. Why not send it out to the world...say through a newspaper editorial. I'll bet you get a lot of responses:-).
